Wahine & Wine chat with Loren Aberhart
Wednesday Jan 06, 2021
Wednesday Jan 06, 2021
This week, Loren Aberhart joins us on the show. Loren is GM Destination and Attraction at Christchurch NZ, and it's fair to say she has a huge job!
Loren has been called 'The Trifecta' - female, under 40 and Maori, but she's taken that in her stride as she's carved out a very successful career in tourism at a young age. She's one of our industry's brightest sparks and we're thrilled to have her share her story on our show today.
She's also been through a lot in her career so join us as we discuss her career path to date, her passion for equality and diversity in the workplace and yes, we do mention her time spent on our TV set! (Loren was on The Block NZ 7 years ago)
We get serious about mental health and Loren shares her tips on how to cope and more importantly look after yourself in a crisis.
Are there too many RTO's? Listen in to hear our views, along with all the exciting things happening in Christchurch this summer.

Reflections on 2020 and our hopes for 2021
Wednesday Dec 23, 2020
Wednesday Dec 23, 2020
We are joined this week by two of our great friends, Anna Black from General Travel and Adele Marsden from New Zealand Educational Tours.
2020 has been a pretty tumultuous year for tourism, and we thought it would be nice for our final episode of the year to look back on some of the highs and obvious lows, but also to look ahead to 2021 with our hopes and plans for the year ahead.
Anna and Adele both own inbound tour operations so their business has been decimated by the border closures. Despite that, they are still optimistic about the future of inbound tourism, and share some of their plans, and tips on what you can do to help them as a tourism business.
We're taking a break next week and will be back with a brand new episode on 6th January 2021.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Meri Kirihimete!

It has been a big week in the tourism industry. We heard from our new Tourism Minister and it's fair to say he has ruffled a few feathers by saying we only need to focus on the wealthy travellers.
In this episode, we break down the value of the youth market with YHA's GM Marketing & Sales, Brian Westwood.
We cover why we shouldn't ignore this sector, the value they bring (aside from visitor spend) and some ideas to solve some of the infrastructure issues NZ tourism is facing.
We also discuss time management as Brian is another very business tourism professional and he shares some great tips for youth who may be looking at a career in tourism. This is a great episode, enjoy!
